STORYLINE:

Trains, buses, and planes were listed as potential hot spots of COVID-19 by experts from around the world at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the conclusions of some recent international research differ from that statement and determined that the probability of contracting the coronavirus is greater when you work in an office, eat in a restaurant or have a drink in a bar.

In May and July, tracking studies followed in the footsteps of hundreds of groups of people with COVID-19 in France, Austria, and Japan, resulting in less than 1 percent of cases being linked to public transportation.

Public Health in France, for example, among the outbreaks of infection studied since the start of the pandemic, none were detected in the subway, trains, planes or ships, according to Le Parisien.

In Austria, a similar investigation found that none of the 355 outbreaks of cases, between April and May, could be traced by use of public transport.

In Tokyo, where public health officials chased and isolated the contacts of infected patients, they found that none were linked to the city subway.

Experts believe that the low infection rates are due in part to reduced use, good compliance with masks and distance rules, and regular cleaning of buses and cars.

Even scientists argue that people tend to stay on trains or buses for relatively short periods of time and often do not talk to anyone, reducing the chances of infection.

On the other hand, the authors of the work admit that the data could be based by the fact that fewer people are using public transport, even in a climate where quarantine has been relaxed.
