Footage of the masts of dangerous wreck SS Richard Montgomery in the Thames this evening (August 6).

Forbes Aerospace & Defense journalist David Hambling has highlighted the increased risk posed by the submerged wreck of the SS Richard Montgomery in the Thames in light of the Beirut disaster, in an article published today (August 6). A number of comments with similar concerns have been appearing on various social media channels.

The submerged WWII American Liberty ship sank in 1944 with 1,400 tons of explosives still onboard and has largely been left to fate.

The UK Government have put out a tender for the masts to be removed next year.

The end of the footage shows the lights on two of the yellow buoys which warn of the wreck to mariners.
