Disaster management teams use zipline to rescue people stranded amid flash flood, heavy rainfall in southern India

National Disaster Response Force team carried out an extensive rescue operation after heavy rainfall and landslides wreaked havoc in parts of southern India's Kerala.

The visual came out of Mundakkai in Wayanad on August 7.

The video shows several rescue team officials using a rope to zipline a person secured inside a safety net across an overflowing river.

Massive amounts of fast-flowing water can be seen gushing down below the gorge.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in Idukki, Malappuram and Wayanad districts of the state.

The alert for 'extremely heavy rainfall' has been issued till August 11.

Five persons lost their lives and 10 others were rescued after a landslide, triggered by torrential rains, occurred in a residential area in Rajamala of Kerala's Idukki district on August 7.
