Chaotic scenes at India airport after plane skids off runway and breaks into two, killing passengers
A flight skid off the runway at the Kozhikode International airport in Karipur, India on late Friday (August 7) evening has caused chaos and fear for the fate of the 195 passengers on board the AIr India Express flight.
Preliminary reports on the scene indicate that the fuselage broke into two after the aircraft overshot the runway at Kalipur airport. The aircraft has been identified as AXB1344, B737 Dubai (DXB) to Calicut (CCJ), an Air India Express flight from Dubai to Kozhikode.
Four, including former Indian Air Force test pilot Captain DV Sathe, have died while as many as 35 passengers are being treated for injuries at the MIMS hospital and Baby Memorial Hospital in Calicut. There is no update on the health of the co-pilot yet.
