Kashmiri transgender community struggles to survive amid covid19 lockdown and post abrogation lockdown. The community is seeking a special package for the community which has no permanent sources of income and is as vulnerable as daily wagers amid the lockdown.

Kashmiri Transgender Community Faces Poverty for the last 12 months.

We request the government to provide an assured subsistence monthly to every transgender person until the situation returns to normalcy.

According to the official figures maintained by Peoples Social and Cultural Society (PSCS), there are around 3,000 transgender people in the valley. PSCS is the only non-government organization working for the upliftment of the community in the region.

Most transgender people in Kashmir are Menzimyeors (matchmakers) or singers and dancers at weddings. Transgender people in Kashmir generally do not live with their families as they live in rented accommodation mostly in Srinagar.

Transgenders in J&K will get pension under the integrated social security scheme.

Monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 as is provided to the destitute, old people, widows, divorcees, orphans and orthopedically challenged persons who either have a meagre income or no source of livelihood. With inclusion of transgenders under the ambit of the scheme, around 2,000 pending pension cases of transgenders will be resolved.
