'Overwatch' fan 3D prints floating weapon from popular online game
A 3D printing enthusiast an fan of the popular online game Overwatch has created a floating "Hypersphere."
A Hypersphere is described as a "set of points at a constant distance from a given point called its centre," and is also a weapon in the game.
Brandon Vo of Los Angeles created the in-game weapon with a 3D printer and mounted it with electromagnets to give it the effect of levitation.
Vo explained online: "It's a powered device that uses electromagnets and regular magnets to keep a puck - which is also a magnet - floating and rotating, so in a sense, yes it's being repulsed.
"The hypersphere cage and the core uses regular neodymium magnets for assembly - need to take the core apart to charge the LED light inside.
"Then it just sits on top of the puck - basically just needs to balance on top of it.
"The core itself is suspended inside of the cage using a magnet on one end and fishing wire on the other - so the magnet pulls the core down and the fishing wire on the other end keeps it 'suspended'."
As of 2018, Overwatch had at least 40 million active players.
