STORYLINE:

The approval rate of the Government of the President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, rose to 37%, the highest since he assumed power in 2019, despite his questioned management of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the survey, prepared by the Datafolha Institute, 37% of Brazilians described the Executive's management as "optimal or good", compared to 32% who thought so at the end of June. This is the best result obtained in Datafolha's polls since he became President of Brazil on January 1, 2019.

The rejection index in turn fell ten points, from 44% to 34%, while another 27% consider that the performance of their government is "regular", according to the survey released by the newspaper 'Folha de Sao Paulo' .

The president, who in the past criticized the results of other opinion polls on his management, reacted this time with irony: "Right, half truth or 'fake news'? Good morning everyone," said the head of state in a message published on their social networks along with an image of the front page of the newspaper, which opens with the headline "Bolsonaro has record approval, rejection drops 10 points."

The poll is the result of telephone interviews with 2,065 people between August 11 and 12, and has a margin of error of two percentage points.

According to the newspaper, the rise in the government's popularity indexes coincides with a moderation in the tone of the president, who during the previous months maintained an intense pulse with the Legislative and Judicial Powers in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Also with the distribution by the Government of subsidies intended for the poorest layers of society and informal workers to alleviate the effects of the social distancing measures imposed to contain the contagion of COVID-19.
