In Indonesia, hundreds of kites with red and white nuances were flown on Monday (August 17) as part of festival celebrations to mark the country 75th anniversary of Independence.

This activity was initiated by the Yogyakarta Indonesian Kite Association, and held on Parangkusumo beach, Yogyakarta City, Yogyakarta Province, with open invites to citizen participation.

"We want to contribute as kite artists, interpreting and enlivening Indonesian independence in our way," said the administrator of the Yogyakarta Indonesian Kites Association, Aji Marutahara.

According to Aji, the red and white kites flown as a way to commemorate Indonesia's independence were carried out simultaneously.

He admitted that he made arrangements with kite activists from various other regions in Indonesia, not only on the south coast of Bantul, including Lampung, Jakarta, Tulungagung, Surabaya to Bali.

"We promised to raise the kites for two days. For today and tomorrow," he said.

Aji said that flying a kite in shades of red and white was a way for him to express his love for Indonesia.

In the momentum of independence, his party advised kite lovers to hone their creativity and always preserve traditional games that have existed since the time of their ancestors.

"We hope that the kites will be maintained. This is a simple game by the people, belonging to the people. Don't prohibit it," he said.
