A TV crew were spotted filming the UK's most dangerous shipwreck, SS Richard Montgomery, early this morning (18 August) at low tide from tug X-Pilot.

The submerged wreck is situated at the mouth of the Thames just over 1 mile offshore of Sheerness, Kent and only 3 of the ships masts can be seen. The doomed ship ran aground on a sandbank and sank on 20 August 1944. Originally, loaded with 7,000 tons of explosives, Stevedores managed to unload most of the cargo, apart from an estimated 1,400 tons which sank with the ship.

Thursday 20th August 2020, will be the 76th anniversary of the ship sinking, with experts divided over what to do with the ship in the future. At present, the UK Government are planning early next year on removing the masts visible above the waterline, to reduce strain on the hull below the surface which is continuing to deteriorate.
