Girl, 5, shoots 111 arrows in 13 mins while hanging upside down, sets world record in southern India

A five-year-old girl set a new world record for shooting 111 arrows while hanging upside down for 13 minutes in southern India's Tamil Nadu.

The incident took place at MGR Janaki college ground in Chennai on August 15.

According to reports, Sanjana was suspended with ropes from a 20-feet-tall tower head, upside down, while attempting to shoot arrows at a target 26-feet away from her.

She is coached by Dr Shihan Hussaini, a level-three archery coach from world archery and the general secretary of The archery Association of Tamilnadu (TAAT).

Shri Pramod Chandurkar, the Secretary-general of the Archery Association of India (AAI) was the chief guest for the event which was held in the presence of Guruji Shri Virendra Sachdeva, president of Delhi Archery Association.

Shri Kumar Rajendran, president of the Archery Association of Tamilnadu flagged the event.

Dr Joris, Chairman of judges committee of AAI witnessed the event online and a panel of judges lead by Shri CS Maniam (Continental judge of world archery) monitored and recorded the proceedings which were sent to the Guinness World Book of Records for further validation.

No spectators were allowed to witness the event owing to COVID-19 pandemic across the world.

The video shows the girl hanging upside down and shooting arrows at a target placed at a distance from her.

According to the reports, Sanjana has already secured three records in archery previously.

Her father Prem stated that she will be trained and will participate in the Olympics in 2032 and win multiple gold medals for the country.

No professional players have broken her record till date, he added.
