An Indian professor has designed hi-tech jacket aimed at combating the spread of COVID-19.

Somesh Singh, a former professor at NID Ahmedabad, has created a jacket that is fitted with social distancing sensors, sanitisation pockets and a thermometer to measure the wearer's temperature.

The CoVest has sensors on the shoulders and back that beep when someone is within 2 metres of the wearer.

Covest is a COVID-19 protection jacket. It was designed by Somesh Singh, a former professor at NID Ahmedabad. The garment looks like any other usual vest but with ‘smart’ features. It has various in-built capabilities to protect the wearer from infections. It is a daily wear garment that will require dry cleaning every fortnight.

It is fitted with social distancing sensors, sanitization pockets, a thermometer to measure the body temperature, and an in-built mask.CoVest(s) are completely ‘MADE IN INDIA’ indigenous innovation and products that can help the general public, industries, services, hospitals, and other institutions.

The garment looks like any usual jacket but for its unique features such as a sensor fitted on the shoulders and the back that beep if you do not maintain the recommended distance of two meters with others on any side. A digital thermometer fitted in the front reads the body temperature on simple finger contact. Three-layered 6X10 inch pockets are stitched in the front where all your personal belongings fit in for sanitization in 30 seconds under UV light of 260-nanometre wavelength. The metal buttons are switches to operate the LED lights for the UV radiation and the seams act as circuits.
