A mechanic in Badung, Indonesia has created a double-ended car which has two steering wheels.
Roni Gunawan, a 73-year-old grandfather, is the owner of this two-faced car and is the head of the workshop at Gemah Ripah taxi company.
Gunawan purchased two cars for modification purposes and the three-month process involved three welders, three painters, and several mechanics.
"The welding process started with cutting the cars to combine them. The welding took two months because the length and height of the chassis had to be the same. After that, the painting process took approximately one month. So in total, it took about three months and a half to complete the project," said Cecep, Gunawan's assistant.
Cecep also said: "The police said the vehicle cannot be driven on public roads."
This footage was filmed on August 24.
This sedan type car is unique, because the rear of the car is exactly the same as the front. I was so similar that one could not distinguish between the front and the back.
Roni Gunawan, a 73 year old grandfather, is the owner of this two faced car. On a day-to-day basis, Roni serves as the head of a workshop at the Gemah Ripah taxi company in Bandung City, West Java Province, Indonesia.
The assistant head of the Gemah Ripah workshop named Cecep said that his boss, Roni Gunawan, deliberately modified the car.
According to him, the car is a combination of two modified cars.
Initially, said Cecep, in the workshop where he worked, there were some 1,500 cc Toyota Vios Limo taxis that were not used.
Some of these vehicles are not used because since the rise of online taxis, offline taxis have been sidelined, causing the company to auction off a number of taxi operating cars.
From there, Roni Gunawan appeared to make modifications. At that time, Roni Gunawan bought two cars for modification purposes.
"At first my boss was just for fun. Seeing the car was not used what he wanted to make. Instead of the car not working, my boss then modified it to a car that has two faces," said Cecep.
The car modification process involved three welders, three painters, and several mechanics.
Initially the vehicle engine and interior were removed, leaving only the car body.
After that the car was cut to take only the front. The two car pieces are then welded together.
This car modification process takes up to 3 months.
"The old welding process starts from cutting the car to combining it. Welding is carried out for two months, because the distance and height of the chassis must be the same. After that the painting process takes approximately one month. So about three months and a half for the process," said Cecep.
The interior of this car is also unique. Because this car has two steering, and each of them has gas and brake pedals, and gears.
"So if you want to pull out the key in one car so that the steering wheel is locked and the tires don't run wild. Both engines work. So you can go back or forward," said Cecep.
However, not only can it be controlled by two drivers, this car also turns out to be strong to tow a towing car, with an uphill condition.
INTERVIEW: Cecep / Assistant Head of Gemah Ripah Workshop
“Initially this car was from Gemah Ripah taxi. Incidentally, there are many online taxis, my boss made this modified car.
Finally, the car that had been two was made into one car.
The obstacle behind it is the difficult one, it's the remaining pieces. So only the front is used.
The manufacturing process is three months and a half.
If people are not a problem. Because when I saw this car on the road, many took videos and selfies.
However, according to the police, this car is not natural to have two faces so that it cannot be driven on public roads.
That's why when he was out on the street, he was arrested by the police.
Now this car has been in the collection for two years,”.
