Antelope enjoys day under the sun at Kruger National Park in South Africa
Sharpe’s Grysboks (Rhaphicerus sharpei) are small, shy, solitary antelopes found from tropical to sub-tropical eastern Africa.
They are about the size of a small dog, weighing 7-9 kilograms (15-20 pounds) and standing about 50 centimeters at the shoulder. Only males have horns, and Sharpe’s Grysboks are characterized by their white-flecked coats.
They browse and graze, with grass comprising about 30% of their diet. This female Grysbok was feeding amongst mopane shrubs on the edge of the Shingwedzi-Mopani Road in Kruger National Park. She then became wary and was alert as a vehicle passed by. (February 4, 2020)
