Derbyshire police confirmed that around 500 cars and 1000 people attended an unauthorised car meet at a Derby retail park on Sunday 23rd August. Boy racers and car enthusiast descended upon the Meteor centre retail park. As soon as they began arriving a number of drivers began doing burn outs and revving their cars creating large bangs with their exhausts.

Derbyshire police originally tasked 2 PCSOs to police the incident but it is reported that a number of officer arrived later on to shut the event down.

However this did not stop the organisers using Facebook to rearrange a second location which was just a short drive down the road at an ASDA super market in Spondon.

Two police cars arrived at this location but it did not intervene or prevent drivers entering the ASDA car park.

Despite worries of a second wave from coronavirus no one appeared to be social distancing.
