Indian Air Force chopper airlifts man from flood affected northern India
An Indian Air Force (IAF) chopper has rescued a man who got trapped in flash floods triggered by incessant rainfall in northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir.
The rescue operation was carried out on August 26 in Rajouri district’s Nowshera area. The Indian Army along with State Disaster Response Force and Police officials were involved in the operation since morning. However, rising water levels necessitated an aerial effort for the rescue.
The IAF helicopter of the Helicopter Unit captained by Squadron Leader Ganesh Prasad Honakuppe was immediately pressed into service to rescue the individual.
The crew promptly chose an appropriate spot to hover over since no suitable ground was available for landing. Two Garud Special Forces commandos were then lowered onto the island.
They reached the individual who was in shock and was unresponsive. The commandos lifted the individual, brought him and placed him inside the hovering helicopter.
Visuals from the operation show the helicopter hovering around the island to rescue the stranded person. The individual was evacuated to the nearest landing ground available at Nowshera Army area and was handed over to civil authorities for treatment.
