As protesters in Hong Kong seek to honor the victims of violent classes on August 31, 2019, one year later to the day, police attempt to quash their efforts.

On August 31st, 2019, a police intervention in the MTR station Prince Edward was livestreamed with scenes of offices beating up protesters and passengers. Pursuant to this intervention, the whole station was sealed off, and according to the police, the injured persons were evacuated to another MTR station. The refusal of the MTR corporation and the police of making accessible the CCTV videos of the incident gave rise to the belief that people had died in the Prince Edward station, even though local medias finally retrieved one of the persons mentioned as missing (who actually is now living in the UK). This evening, attempts at deposing flowers at the MTR station were pushed back by riot police who carried out a large clearance operation in Mongkok, during which bystanders were often stop and searched and sometimes fined for violation the regulation on the prohibition of social gathering. In other occasions, journalists were caught in a pincer movement and separated among holders of press cards and "others" who were then subject to search and in some cases, fined for violating the same regulation. Later, as the evening ebbed on, riot police pushed down a pregnant woman then pepper sprayed the husband. The police could be seen providing first aid to the woman and helping the husband to wipe off the pepper spray with wet wipes.

Online channels are calling for a bigger protest on Sunday 6 September 2020, when the Legco elections were scheduled to take place, but were postponed by one year by the Hong Kong government, allegedly as a measure to prevent the spread of the COVID19.
