While on a walk in Coldfoot, Alaska, Nickolas Warner found a rare phenomenon named needle ice where small frozen pillars are created.

Needle ice is formed when water, above freezing point, underground rises as it meets the surface with a sub-zero temperature.

This footage was filmed on August 30.

I found this odd type of ice crystal called needle-ice while going for a walk along the river.

Needle Ice is a rare type of ice crystal that forms when flowing water is exposed to freezing air. The super-cooled water forms small ice crystals that naturally separate from each other and expand upward, creating little pillars of ice or "needles." This phenomenon can usually be found near the edge of rivers and streams, and it happens in Alaska during spring and fall.
