A four-storey building collapsed in western India's Mumbai leaving debris scattered across a road.

Locals watched on as officials cleared up the rubble after the building fell apart on September 2.

The 25-year-old residential building was redeveloped in 2009 but major cracks were spotted almost two years ago.

The Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation declared the structure dangerous and evacuation notices were issued to all 20 flat owners.

While 15 of them moved out, 22 people of the five families stayed in the building.

Following the collapse, the area was cordoned off and a fire brigade team reached the spot promptly to initiate a search and rescue operation.

Several electricity poles were brought down by the collapse and affected the power supply in the area.

No casualties have been reported.
