Forest department officials have rescued a notorious monkey from a residential area in northern India's Uttarakhand. The incident took place in Shyampur of Rishikesh on August 27.

According to reports, the primate — who is believed to have bitten over 40 people — has wreaked havoc in the neighbouring areas. He used to enter a house and scare the residents before fleeing the spot. Troubled by its menace, the locals complained to a local political functionary to get him rescued from the area. Previously, a team of Dehradun forest division had attempted to capture the primate twice. However, every time the monkey had fled before the team could reach the spot.

Recently, the monkey barged into the house of Meena Jirwan, who locked the door leaving the monkey trapped inside. The residents alerted the forest officials and a team led by Ravi Joshi rushed to the spot to rescue the primate.

The video shows several people cautiously opening the door and entering inside the room. Following this, they secure the monkey inside a trap net and rescue it safely. The monkey is then shifted to a sack and taken away from the place. Sources suggest the monkey has been released back into the forest.
