Two smugglers were arrested after smuggling 49 kilograms (108 lbs) of marijuana hidden inside bamboo shots in southern India's Karnataka.

Footage filmed on August 22 shows officials cutting open the shoots revealing the drugs stacked inside.

The District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) arrested the duo in Bramavar of Udupi district after the drugs arrived in northern India's Uttar Pradesh.

A team of police officers have arrested two people for smuggling 49 kilograms (108 lbs) of marijuana hidden inside bamboo shoots in southern India.

District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) arrested the duo in Bramavar of Udupi district on August 22.

Acting on the information, DCIB officials intercepted a truck at Heroor, and on inspection, discovered massive quantities marijuana stacked inside the bamboo shoots.

Following this, they broke open the bamboo shoots to pull out pouches of cannabis from inside. According to the reports, the container reportedly arrived from northern India's Uttar Pradesh.

The arrested have been identified as Karuthapandy (40) from Tamil Nadu and Vanu Haldar (30) from West Bengal.

They were assisted by Gopal Sarkar alias Pinky and Sanjay Sarkar, both from West Bengal. DCIB inspector Manjappa, ASI Ravichandra, Santosh Kunder, Ramu Hegde, Dayanand, Rajkumar, Chandra Shetty, Suresh, Raghavendra and Shivananda were part of the arrest operation.

Sources suggest both the lorry driver and his accomplice were taken into police custody. Further investigation is ongoing.
