Muslims in Egypt have been able to return to the mosques for Friday prayers for the first time in six months after places of worship were shut due to COVID-19.

Footage from Alexandria on September 4 shows many attending the Al-Fayrouz Resort Mosque and partaking in Friday prayers.

The Egyptian government approved the reopening of mosques for Friday prayers on August 28.

Now worshippers are granted access but must adhere to rules, including, social distancing, the wearing of protective masks and restricted opening times.

Any attendee who violates these rules will not only be banned from Friday prayers but will also close the mosque in which the violation occurred.
