Typhoon Haishen, local name Typhoon #10, barrelled towards Japan's southernmost islands of Okinawa and the Kyushu region bringing with it strong winds and heavy rain on Sunday, September 6.

From a super typhoon status, Haishen slightly weakened upon approach to Okinawa and Kyushu. Still a major threat to Japan's southernmost region and South Korea, it unleashed powerful winds and rains, triggering disruption in bullet train and air travel operations. Evacuation was carried out in several areas days before as major flooding and mudslides were expected.
