Two species of otters, Asian small-clawed and smooth-coated otter have been spotted in southern India's Karnataka.

The visual came out of Besagur village in Virajpet taluk in Kodagu district on September 5.

The video shows a raft of otters playing in the river while whistling happily.

According to reports, the Asian small-clawed otters are the smallest of the family and mainly prey on crustaceans. These otters are nocturnal and shy and mostly live in smaller streams.

The smooth-coated otters are mainly spotted during the day, prefers downstream river with higher fish diversity.

A steady otter population indicates a healthy river ecosystem and it is important to protect these vulnerable species.
