Polonnaruwa wildlife officials have rescued a baby elephant that had fallen into a muddy swamp at Divulana Villuwa, Polonnaruwa in Srilanka on 06th September 2020. The baby elephant had fallen into the swamp the previous evening.
A farmer, who saw the elephant calf, had informed the Wildlife authorities.

The operation was carried out based on information received by the Polonnaruwa Conservation office. The animal was saved with great effort by the wildlife officers. Wildlife official further stated that most of the animal's body was under the mud and the baby elephant may not have been found if not rescued immediately.

The baby elephant was a one-year-old male about 4 feet tall. After a five hour operation, with much struggle, the wildlife officials managed to rescue the baby elephant and the baby elephant moved back to the herd of elephants camping nearby the village.
