A road collapsed and slid down the hill after a heavy rain in southern Thailand.

Parts of the road on the island of Phuket were eroded following the storm.

The ground finally gave way and caused a landslide and massive traffic jam during the morning rush hour on September 8.

No one was reported hurt from the landslide, but the damaged route is expected to take a several weeks before being fixed.

Local mayor Chalermlak Kebsub arrived at the scene and instructed the staff to block to damaged lane, which is about 300ft long, before informing motorists to avoid the route.

He said: "We need a well-organized plan to fix the road and all the big trucks will not be allowed to drive through the area during these times."

Thailand is in the peak of its annual rainy season that sees regular tropical storms until cooler weather arrives towards the late October.
