Wildlife photographer Ewan Wilson managed to record a terrifying closeup footage of a great white shark launching an attack on some bait.

A tuna head is dangled from a boat enticing the shark to launch a terrifying attack on the bait which is caught on a GoPro which was positioned in the path of the beast.

Wilson told Newsflare: "The slow-motion on the video shows in detail how the fantastic predator uses its ability to extend its jaws out to get a little extra reach on its prey.

"The powerful animal leaves the scene when she losses the bait, but she was not deterred and returned to the boat after a minute or so."

This footage was filmed in 2018 in South Africa's Mossel Bay.
