Schoolboy, 14, carried into the air and falls to the ground while flying kite
This is the terrifying moment a schoolboy was carried away by a giant kite and dropped to the ground in Indonesia.
Nabil, 14, built the 50-metre dragon-shaped kite with his friends to play with during the kite-flying season when the winds are strongest.
The boys tested their newly-made kite for the first time and they were amazed as the monster dwarfed the creations from other pupils in Bantul regency, Yogyakarta Province on September 4.
However, Nabil did not realise that the strong winds and the kite's size were enough to lift him in the air and he was carried four metres off the ground.
The terrified teenager fell flat on his back when the kite's string snapped. He fractured his thigh bone in the fall.
Marjana, a teacher who watching the kids fly the kite, said: "The boy was suddenly carried away when there was a strong gust of wind. Nobody expected that to happen because children fly giant kites here all the time."
Shocked onlookers called paramedics who arrived with a stretcher and rushed the boy to hospital.
Nabil is now in stable condition although he will need a surgery before he can walk properly again. He will also need to undergo physical therapy for a while after the surgery.
Indonesians are known for their long-standing tradition of flying kites in the rice paddies during the harvest season when the wind is at its strongest.
In the island of Bali, an annual kite festival is held where local and foreign competitors build massive and unique kites to fly in the Padang Galak area during the dry season.
