A Rohingya refugee, who was rescued after spending six months stranded at sea, has died on Friday (September 11) in Lhokseumawe, Indonesia after experiencing shortness of breath and a fever.

Footage filmed on Friday (September 11) shows workers wearing hazmat suits burying the body.

The victim was among a group of 300 Rohingya refugees who were rescued by local fishermen on Monday (September 7) after they were repeatedly denied port by regional authorities.

Ridwan Jalil, Head of the Rohingya Refugee Management Team in Lhokseumawe, said three Rohingya migrants had died and all had experienced the same symptoms.

Jalil said four more were being treated with the same symptoms.
