A Mexican parrot snake (Leptophis mexicanus) is rescued in the Hacienda Las Vegas private state in the municipality of Livingston, in the Izabal department, in Guatemala. The snake, which was hiding in the motor of a jeep, was caught by Snake Expert, Nicolas Pelayes, who works for the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) “Born to be Wild Guatemala” (BTBWGT) and Animal Conservation Guatemala (FAE), two initiatives that captures and rescues, heals, nurtures and rehabilitates, and finally releases wild animals back into their habitats. These initiatives also educates local people on the importance of protecting and preserving wildlife in the Central American country. The snake, a species of medium-sized slender snake in the family Colubridae and endemic to the Americas, was released on a protected nature reserve in Sierra del Caral, a mountainous region in the Guatemalan Caribbean.
