The fires at the Pantanal wetland in Brazil has been raging since July this year and are showing no signs of abating.

Due to the dangers the fires are posing to wildlife, a group composed of veterinarians, biologists, and local guides arrived in the area in late August to save what injured animals they could.

This footage taken by Ben Phalan and Luciana Leite on September 8 shows a small herd of capybaras fleeing the fires.

Video Location: Pantanal wetland, Brazil
Video Recording Date/Time: September 8, 2020 at about 13:00h
Owner's Comment: Animals that could easily flee from a single fire are trapped by multiple fire fronts. Those that survive are being rescued with burns and respiratory distress. We saw capybaras, tapirs, coatis, and an otter fleeing from the fires through a parched, ash-covered landscape.
