This is the heart-stopping moment neighbours climbed a four-storey building to save a toddler stuck on a balcony.

The two-year old girl was seen tiptoeing precariously along the 40ft high concrete ledge in Bangkok, Thailand on September 16.

Shocked residents noticed the girl and formed a human chain to scale the outside of the apartment block.

Passing motorcycle rider Sumrit Changcharoen, a rescue volunteer, said he noticed the chaos and joined in the rescue.

Footage shows how there was one man on each level of the building as they reached up to the girl.

After almost an hour, the resident in a blue t-shirt grabbed the girl and she was carried to safety.

Bizarrely, nobody knows how the girl climbed onto the ledge as there was no opening for her to climb through and the hole in the blue plastic was only smashed so neighbours could try and reach through to grab her.

Sumrit said: ''I was riding home when I saw there were people panicking. I called my friend and we all climbed the building together.

''We still don't know how the little girl climbed onto the balcony. We're all just relieved that we could save her from hurting herself.''

The child's mother, Thiphawan Madok, 31 added: "I have no no idea how my daughter climbed all the way up there. I wasn't home that day, my mother was supposed to be watching over her.''
