Photographer films escaped Terrapin living wild in a Yorkshire lake.
A photographer has captured footage of a Terrapin living in the wild today (Sunday 20th September) at a tourist hotspot in Leeds.
The footage came after the photographer took a wide angle aerial photo of the lake at Temple Newsam Estate last week, but didn't know he'd caught the reptile until he
zoomed in on the photo on his computer. "You could tell there was a tortoise like reptile in the pic" exclaimed Lee Collings 45 from Leeds who took the photo and couldn't believe
what he saw. I posted a photo to social media and found it to be a Yellow Bellied Terrapin which is'nt native to the UK & has probably been released by someone as an unwanted pet.
"I couldn't believe I didn't even see it in person while I was taking the photo" said Lee, so he was adamant to go back with a telephoto lens to see if he could get a better photo of it.
"I had to take a pair of binoculars to help me try and locate the reptile because the pond was so full of weed and bits of rubbish, that it made it hard to see what I was looking
for with the naked eye" claimed Lee and only had to look for about 10 minutes before he found it. It has been reported to the RSPCA to see if it a danger to native wild animals and is waiting a response.
