Watch As A Professional Falconer Trains His Harris Hawk After His Molt Period

Wildlife enthusiast and filmmaker Ewan Wilson captures the moment when falconer James re-trains his harris hawk Spike after his molting period. The molting period is when the bird sheds old feathers and replaces them with new ones. This is a bit of a proses so the birds falconry skills are a bit rusty, there for a re-fresher is in oder.

For the training, James attaches a rope to himself and the hawk, walks around 20ft away and then places some meat on his glove. This gives the bird incentive to fly towards James and land on his glove. This also builds trust between the hawk and the falconer. This is imperative for the pare to work together when out on the castle ground educating the public about these birds both in the wild and in captivity.

As the falconer os busy training Spike, Ewan Wilson presents to the camera to give a little more information about what is happening in this scene.

"The bond between a falconer and there bird is a beautiful thing to witness, this is a tradition which goes back literary thousands of years. The first time humans and birds of prey where documented working together was back in 1700bc, when woolly mammoths where roaming Wrangle Island" Says the filmr.
