This was the majestic moment a California condor swooped and glided through a canyon in Utah's Zion National Park.

Footage captured on September 17 shows the bird of prey in flight as it gives onlookers a close-up glimpse of its aerodynamic capabilities.

The bird became extinction in the wild in 1987 but through conservation efforts in the nineties, it was reintroduced and the number rose to at least 488 in areas of California, Nevada and Utah.

Filmer Tomishiwa Dantas explained to Newsflare: "A single breeding pair of California condors were reintroduced back to Zion in the 2000s after going extinct in the wild in the '80s.

"From the famous Angel's Landing hike, they can regularly be seen gliding effortlessly along the cliff sides.

"In this instance, one of the individuals was caught on camera swooping quite close to the people atop Scout's Lookout!"
