Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race 2012, Dreadnought Reach

At 54 miles into the 125 mile course and just after the Kennet & Avon canal joins the River Thames, this riverside field just outside Reading is often regarded as the psychological halfway stage in this epic canoe race.

By this stage of the race, most crews will have been paddling for between 8 and 10 hours and will use this compulsory portage as an opportunity to change clothing and to take on some food. Back on the river they are faced with the prospect of another 71 miles of paddling through the night before arriving at Westminster.
