Honey-hungry bear likes to suck its handler's finger at zoo in Indonesia
A honey-hungry bear at an Indonesian zoo has a unique hobby of sucking on its handler's fingers.
In footage filmed on Tuesday (September 22) at the Bukittinggi Cultural and Kinantan Wildlife Park (Bukittinggi Zoo), West Sumatra, a 5-year-old female sun bear named Gaston playing in a cage with her handler Phadil Nabhani (25).
Gaston always approaches Phadil who is cleaning the cage only to be spoiled and suck her nanny's finger.
According to Phadil, he has been taking care of Gaston since 2015. At that time Gaston was brought by the people from Pariaman City, in a thin and pathetic condition as she was separated from her mother.
Phadil admitted that at that time he was just learning to care for wild animals.
"I take care of Gaston with great love. Feed her and drink milk until we love each other. Maybe Gaston thinks of me as a substitute for her mother so Gaston likes to suck my fingers," said Phadil.
When Phadil comes to her cage, Gaston always approaches and is greeted with a hug.
Making friends with wild animals, of course there is a risk that Phadil must bear. Not infrequently he gets small injuries because Gaston likes to wrestle, but that is ignored for the sake of his love for this ferocious animal.
"The key to conquering a wild animal is caring for it with great compassion," concluded Phadil.
