This is the heartwarming moment a dog that was wrapped tightly in a blanket and abandoned on a pavement was rescued.

Jacer Fernandez was riding in Malabon City, the Philippines when he noticed the blanket with something moving inside.

He said he was curious what could be trapped inside so he parked and took a closer look.

He said: "The person who did this is cruel and should be punished. Dogs are our best friends and it did not deserve what happened to it."

The cyclist proceeded to remove the tightly-wrapped blanket to free the dog who had been whimpering inside.

It immediately ran away when it was out of the blanket because of fear but it was looking back at the kind man who helped him.

Concerned animal lovers have reported the incident to authorities and are now looking for the identity of the person who did it.
