Bizarre creature found covered in wriggling maggots hatching from its body
A mechanic was shocked after finding a bizarre creature with its body covered in wriggling worms.
John Vindas was checking his repair shop in San Carlos, Costa Rica before closing for the day when he noticed the insect on a ledge on September 19.
The confused car enthusiast said he was not sure where it came from, but believes it was blown in by the wind from the large trees outside his shop.
He said: "It looks like the insect is suffering because it doesn't move, except for the tiny worms in its body."
John showed the creature to his friends and was horrified when they told him that it was a caterpillar filled with fly parasite larvae that recently hatched.
He immediately buried it on the ground before it touched more insects in the garden outside his shop.
Some fly parasites lay eggs on another insect before its larva feeds on the live host once they hatched.
