This itchy zebra finds some seriously soothing relief in South Africa's Kruger National Park on September 27. when he rubs his face on this tree stump in the most satisfying way.

It was during mid-morning on a safari in the Kruger National Park when we came across a herd of zebra standing spread out on an open grassland. Together with the giraffe, the zebra is the most photographed animal in Africa. It made sense for us to stop an admire these beautifully unique creatures.
My attention was drawn to a zebra standing alone, next to a tree stump, away from the rest of the herd. We are mostly fascinated by a zebra’s unique appearance and their nature to gather in large numbers. I soon realised zebras can be just as fascinating when they are alone, even though it does not happen often. This zebra was alone for one reason. He came to the stump to find relief from a great itch. The zebra started with his nose, scratching one nostril carefully on the sharp edge of the stump. The zebra started scratching its jaw, cheeks and head against the stump. It was hilarious to watch how adamant the zebra was scratching its itchy parts. Looking at the zebra’s eyes, it looked like it found great relief at the same time. The zebra finally sorted out its itching problems and casually moved back to the herd.
We left smiling after witnessing the unusual behaviour of this lone zebra. Like other animals with hair on their skins, zebras normally rely on oxpecker birds to clean them from ticks and parasites that causes these itchy areas on the skin and therefore hardly use a rubbing post which is normally used by animals such as elephants and warthogs.
