A driver was shocked after finding a snake slithering through his car.

Pitel Aclon was about to get in the car to go for lunch with friends when he noticed a shiny object on the dashboard.

He was started when he realised that it was the sunlight glimmering on a snake's scales in Davao, Philippines on September 21.

Footage shows the reptile moving through the vehicle, across the dashboard before turning back and wrapping itself around the steering wheel.

Pitel stayed calm and removed the serpent from the car using a piece of wood.

He said: "I'm thankful because the snake did not hurt me. If I didn't notice, it could have bitten me while I was driving.''

The creature is believed to be a Philippine rat snake. It slithered away into nearby woodland.
