Indian Railways' electric locomotive manufacturing unit Chittaranjan Locomotive Works(CLW) turned out the First batch of Tejas Express locos with aerodynamically designed WAP-5.

The ‘push-pull’ technology will help the passenger electric locomotives to reduce air drags at higher speed for more energy efficiency and dynamic stability during high-speed operations.

Praveen Kumar Mishra, General Manager CLW flagged off these Tejas Express locos in the presence of senior officers and staff.

The two WAP-5 type electric locomotives are of 6000 horsepower capacity each and are equipped with a latest insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) based propulsion system capable to run at 160 kmph (100 mph).

These are noise-free, pollution-free and environment-friendly locomotives which will require less maintenance and also save loco shunting time.
