Severe flash floods turn roads to rivers in Bangkok
Heavy rain and thunderstorms caused severe flash floods which turned roads to rivers on Friday (October 2nd) night in Bangkok, Thailand.
Footage from the Sukhumvit Road in the centre of the capital shows vehicles battling through the deluge, which swamped drains and overflowed onto pavements.
Many residents were soaked and had to take off their socks and shoes to wade through the floods, which were knee-deep in some parts.
There was also flooding in the busy On Nut and Huai Khwang districts as well as several others.
The torrential downpours came at the height of the Friday night rush hour traffic causing long traffic jams.
''I only came out tonight after work to go to for a burger but I'm cut off from the restaurant by the flooded road,'' said British ex-pat Barrington Florence.
Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia are at the peak of their annual monsoon rainy seasons, which see regular torrential downpours.
