Rare pair of conjoined twins born in northern India

A unique pair of conjoined twins joined at their waist were born in northern India's Uttar Pradesh on October 4.

The delivery took place in Satyanand Hospital in the city of Shahjahanpur.

The twins have two heads, two pairs of eyes, four arms, and one pair of common legs along with a common umbilicus.

A video from the hospital shows the twins joined at their navel area, with legs protruding to one side.

They twins were born to a couple Shahin and Yasin of Behta Gokul in nearby Hardoi. Shahin was rushed to the hospital after developing labour pains on October 4.

The doctors had an ultrasound done before the surgery and confirmed that a pair of twins were in the womb.

A team consisting of gynecologist Dr Shilpi Singh, pediatric Dr Gaurav Mishra and anesthesiologist Dr Saurav Mishra conducted the operation.

The twins' condition is being discussed with paediatrics surgeon Dr Sunil Kanaujia at T S Misra Medical College and Hospital in Lucknow for proper care and treatment.
