A genius dog from Surrey in the UK came up with a method of playing fetch without its owner.

Footage shows labrador Django dropping his ball atop a hill and giving chase once as it rolled down and repeating that process eliminating the middleman.

Django's owner told Newsflare: "When my dog Django finds a nice hill, he enjoys dropping the ball and playing fetch with himself.

"He could do this for hours.

"He likes to find the sweet spot to drop the ball so that it goes all the way down and always waits before the ball is halfway down before starting the chase."

The footage was captured in August 2016.
