COSATU, SAFTU and FEDUSA, the three largest trade unions in South Africa went on a national strike today demanding that government amongst a number of demands respect collective bargaining agreements, end corruption and put an end to job losses.

In Cape Town the protesters handed over memorandums of demand at the offices of the City of Cape Town, the Western Cape Provincial Legislature and at national parliament. At the Western Cape Provincial Legislature the Premier, Alan Winde, personally received the memorandum.

Similar marches and protests were held across South Africa. The strike is being led by COSATU (Congress of South African Trade Unions), which is an alliance partner of the ANC (African National Congress), which is the ruling party of South Africa.
