Violence erupted in Indonesia on Wednesday (October 7) as protesters vented their anger over the government's jobs law.

Footage filmed in South Jakarta shows police using water cannons against protesters.

Protests took place in dozens of provinces in Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and other regions. Local parliament buildings were also targeted by demonstrators.

The job creation law that was recently passed by Indonesia's parliament has been met with strong resistance. Critics say the new law negatively impacts workers' rights, while the government insists it will lead to better welfare for workers by facilitating more foreign investment.
