Police arrested 84 students who were involved in riots in Padang, West Sumatra, Thursday, October 8, 2020. Riots occurred during a demonstration against the passage of the Employment Creation Law or Omnibuslaw.

The students were arrested for trying to make trouble during the student action. The students themselves demonstrated in an orderly manner.

The students, mostly still wearing uniforms, threw stones at officers. Some of them use sharp weapons.

The police fired tear gas to block the crowd from reaching the bridge in front of the Basko Hotel.

Apart from using tear gas shots, the police also deployed a mass decomposition vehicle to dispel the rioters.

West Sumatra Regional Police Chief Inspector General of Police Toni Harmanto Harmanto, who came to the location of the action, asked the children to be aged to leave the place. He also asked people who wanted to convey their aspirations, not to act anarchically.

Toni Harmanto Quote:
("People, don't be anarchists. Please convey your opinion, but don't be anarchists. Also school children who don't know the problem, don't be provoked)

As a result of the riot, 84 people were arrested. They were taken to the police headquarters for questioning.
