A woman was rescued from a deep well in southern India's Tamil Nadu state on September 27.

The rescue operation was carried out in Kalipalayam village in Tiruppur.

The video shows the two fire department team members being lowered into the well to rescue the woman.

A lifebuoy was also used to keep her afloat in the well, which was estimated as being around 70 feet (21 metres) deep.

Local reports said the woman had gone near the well to check the water level, but fell in.

The neighbours heard her screams and called the fire department.

After the rescue she was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Locals have asked officials to put a safety grille over the top of the well to prevent such accidents.
