Cuckoo chick begs for, and gets a free meal from its Sparrow parent
Dideric (or Diederik) Cuckoos (Chrysococcyx caprius) are breeding migrants throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. They are brood parasites with a wide range of hosts, particularly weavers, sparrows and widowbirds. This Dideric Cuckoo chick was raised by a pair of Southern Grey-headed Sparrows (Passer diffusus), was videoed begging and then being fed by one of the adult sparrows.
