Severe floods have submerged homes in Battambang province in western Cambodia.

Footage shows 2 metre (6 feet) deep torrents covering homes as locals watch, perched on a wall.

Houses were swept away by flash floods while roads, bridges and crops were damaged.

Heavy downpours have battered region since Monday October 5.

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology said the tropical storm has already left the country, but the downpours are expected to continue over the weekend.

A monsoon trough moving across Thailand, close to the border with Cambodia, was responsible for the weather, they said.

Houses were swept away by flash floods while roads and bridges were damaged by fast-flowing muddy torrents. Crops in the region were also damaged after fields were submerged under floods.

Residential streets and roads were hit by the deluge as locals put sandbags in front of their homes.

In neighbouring Thailand, there were gloomy skies and rain across the country.

The Thailand Meteorological Department said showers would continue over the weekend.

A monsoon trough moving across the lower Central, the upper South and the Eastern regions of Thailand close to the border with Cambodia, was responsible for the weather, they said.

Most parts of Thailand were overcast with wind, rain and thunderstorms in places.
